A Yukon woman was killed after a grizzly bear broke into her home last Saturday.

Claudia Huber was at her house near Teslin, Yukon when her dog started barking outside, QMI Agency reported.

Her husband, Matthias Liniger, went to settle the dog down when he found it was barking at a large, underweight male grizzly on the property.

Liniger went inside to grab a rifle and the bear started climbing into the home through a window, said CBC News.

The bear chased the couple out of the home and attacked Huber before Liniger shot the animal dead and took his wife to a health clinic, according to The Canadian Press.

Huber, 42, died around noon.

Such attacks are rare in the Yukon, but it's even less common to see it happen after a bear enters a home, conservation officer Ryan Hennings told CBC News.

He's still working to deduce what led to the attack.

"I know from our site preliminary investigation that we saw no attractants at the house we would commonly see that may invite wildlife or bears to a property," he said.

The coroner's service will carry out an autopsy on Huber this week. A necropsy has already been performed on the bear.
