Halloween pet costumes help double store sales

Halloween is big business and some retailers say increasingly the big trend is dressing up your pet.

Over the last few years, Canadian costume retailer Halloween Alley says it has seen sales double, in no small part, due to pet costumes.

Franchise owner TarniaLoewen says its North Vancouver location has just restocked its wall of dog costumes.

Loewen says many owners like their dog's costumes to match their own, particularly when dressing as something that fits a theme, like a superhero.

Halloween Alley buyer Tammy Salvalaggio says the number of dog costumes sold by the store in the last five years has doubled.

"They're just so popular," she says. "Pets are huge. We just find that a lot of people are looking for them."
