Spring 2015 is in the air at World Mastercard Fashion Week in Toronto as Canada's top designers showcase their visions of fashion's future. But while the catwalk is awash with skin and flimsy fabric, we wanted to know what Canadian designers are wearing now.

Here are their top must-have fashion trends with winter on its way:

Joe Mimran, creative director and founder of Joe Fresh

Joe Mimran takes a personal interest in every step of the creative process at the popular Canadian clothier Joe Fresh. You can bet he'll be bundled up in colour when the mercury drops.

"A textured scarf is the most versatile accessory to take you from fall through winter," Mimran told CBC News. "A plaid mix scarf is an unexpected seasonal pop of colour and pairs well with a [motorcycle] jacket or chunky sweater."

"Take a T-shirt and jeans and throw a puffer [jacket] on with it, and you are guaranteed to stand out and stay warm."

Nelia Belkova, fashion blogger

By day, Nelia Belkova is a Toronto-based financial analyst, but by night, she's an influential fashion and lifestyle commentator for Style Blog — one of Canada's most popular online fashion destinations.

"This fall, I’m going to be wearing a lot of faux fur," Belkova tells CBC News. "I love the 70’s look of shaggy, fuzzy, colourful coats.

"Paired with cigarette pants and knee-high boots, this will be my go-to look for fall."

Kimberley Newport-Mimran, president and head designer, Pink Tartan

Kimberley Newport-Mimran's Pink Tartan womenswear line has been setting trends since she helped co-found the Toronto-based label back in 2002.

"This fall, I'm feeling a ribbed turtleneck and flare pant topped with a double breasted maxi coat," Newport-Mimran told CBC News.

Perhaps after seasons of skinny-jeans, the fashionista's personal style will help push the trend of a looser leg pant.

Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy, co-creative directors, Mackage

Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy are the designing power-duo behind the hugely successful Canadian outerwear and accessories brand, Mackage.

"The must have for me is a leather handbag and a great pair of heels," confessed Dahan. "I always need to be in heels and I love always changing up my handbag to match my outfit. My handbag always allows me to play up my wardrobe choice."

"A black leather jacket should be a staple in every man and woman’s closet," declared Elfassy. "[But] don't be a sucker for a trend! Stick to the classics: jeans, leather jacket and white shirt."

Rita Remark is the Lead Nail Artist for Essie Canada

One of Canada's top nail artists, Rita's portfolio runs the gamut from natural-looking manicures to fiercely graphic works of art.

The Gold-plated moon look is one of Rita’s favourites this season.

"I love that this is an artful manicure that's still accessible," she explains. "Black goes with absolutely everything and the added gold touch makes for a mani that doubles as jewellery."

World Mastercard Fashion Week runs through Oct. 25 Toronto
