A gunman made his way into Parliament Hill’s Centre Block on Wednesday, shortly after shooting a Canadian soldier nearby.

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, 24, died after being shot twice in the chest at point blank range while he stood guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial.

Parliamentarians, staffers, and journalists in the building at the time were put on lockdown while RCMP and Ottawa police rushed to secure federal buildings and nearby commercial areas and schools.
