With Halloween this way coming, every ghoul, vampire, Satanist and zombie is gearing up for the creepiest, bloodiest most enjoyably sinister night of the year. Everyone seems to love a little spookiness in their life and musicians are no different, but they do it all year round.

For decades bands and artists have used monsters, murder and the macabre as inspiration for their tunes and image. Whether it’s dressing the part or dabbling in dark themes, horror has always played a creative force in the world of music. Sometimes the bands even get carried away the horror when their gothic life imitates their art.

So in the spirit of All Hallows' Eve, here's a look at the creepiest artists who have rocked us with fear. You might want to leave the lights on…
