FREDERICTON - A new speaker of the New Brunswick legislature will be chosen Friday, but the Opposition Progressive Conservatives say they won't support the candidate being promoted by the government.

The Liberals have suggested that Chris Collins, the Liberal member for Moncton Centre, get the job.

However, the Tories say they'll be supporting one of their own members, Hugh Flemming who represents Rothesay.

Flemming was health minister under the previous government.

The speaker is chosen by a vote and the Liberals hold a majority in the legislature.
