Brody Paterson charged with 1st degree murder of Craig Widdifield

The Integrated Homicide Team has announced a charge of first degree murder in the gangland shooting of Craig Widdifield in the parking lot of a public shopping mall last year.

IHIT and the Surrey RCMP announced the charge against 20-year-old Brody Paterson at a news conference Friday afternoon.

Craig Widdifield was shot multiple times in the parking lot of the Morgan Crossing shopping centre at 15765 Croydon Drive in April 2013.

His body was found lying in a pool of blood next to the open door of his vehicle.

Homicide investigators say Paterson was placed under surveillance and arrested Friday morning in Surrey.

At the time of the shooting, police said Widdifield's death was likely the result of an ongoing turf war over drugs and drug money.

Acting RCMP Superintendent Dwayne McDonald says police have met with Widdifield's family, who were surprised but pleased with the arrest.

McDonald says the investigation is not over and more arrests are expected.
