Legal pot shop opens 17km south of Aldergrove, B.C. border crossing

British Columbians looking to buy legal marijuana in the U.S. now only have to travel 17 km past the Aldergrove border, just north of Bellingham, Wash. to make a purchase.

2020 Solutions is the sixth pot store to open in Whatcom County since marijuana was legalized for sale there in 2012. Inside there's crisp track lighting, modern clean display cases and rock motif walls.

Operator Aaron Nelson of 2020 Solutions says he already has a downtown store, where 15 per cent of the shoppers are from Canada, but he's expecting more at their new outlet.

"We anticipate 25 per cent or so of our customers base will be from north of the border," said Nelson. "They are just looking to have a good time while they're down for the weekend or for a short stay."

Canadians can buy and use pot in U.S. states that have legalized the drug, but cannot bring it back across the border.
