'Incident' involving small plane reported at Edmonton International Airport

There was an “incident” involving a small regional plane on a runway at Edmonton International Airport just before 9 p.m. MT Thursday.

Airport spokeswoman Heather Hamilton confirmed that the incident involved a Q-400 aircraft upon landing.

Hamilton says the passengers have been taken off the plane. Alberta Health Services says that three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

AHS spokesman Kerry Williamson said that 11 ambulances were sent to the scene, but only three were needed.

The airline involved has not been released. However, pictures on Twitter suggest an Air Canada Express plane was involved. The Q-400 aircraft can carry up to 74 people.

Fire and police crews can be seen on the runway. The airport has activated its emergency operations centre.
