Toronto-to-New York bus crash sends 26 to hospital

Twenty-six people were taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, after a Toronto-to-New York bus crashed in upstate New York early today.

The crash happened at 2:30 a.m. ET on Highway I-81 near Lafayette, N.Y., about 10 kilometres south of Syracuse.

A local fire chief told CBC News that the bus struck a disabled car that had hit a guard rail minutes earlier and was left disabled on the highway. The bus also hit a tractor-trailer that had stopped to help.

The driver of the car faces charges of impaired driving.

It took emergency crews two hours to free the driver of the Pine Hill Trailways bus.
