West Vancouver police search for loaded pistols near elementary school

West Vancouver police are people living in the West Bay area to be cautious as a search for two loaded handguns continues Thursday morning.

Police say they have information that a mentally distraught man may have discarded two loaded 9mm pistols in a tree-filled or green space.

Const. Jeff Palmer says the man was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act after police were called to a home in the 3000 block of Roseberry Avenue early Wednesday evening.

Classes are continuing at West Bay Elementary School while the search is underway, but outdoor activities have been suspended.
