The incident happened Thursday at Princess Margaret secondary school, and police say it sent the male victim to hospital with multiple stab wounds to his back.
Surrey RCMP say the suspect took off before police could arrive and officers recovered a knife.
Sgt. Dale Carr says the suspect went home, phoned police and advised them where he was, as officers were on their way to the residence.
The Surrey School District says counselling is being made available for students and staff.
Spokesman Doug Strachan says he can recall no similar incident during the 11 yeas he has worked for the district and everybody is anxious to hear how the victim is doing. (News 1130)
