Fall of Berlin Wall remembered by CBC cameraman

This Sunday marks the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the historic moment that signalled the end of the Cold War.

The wall divided Germany for nearly three decades. But on Nov. 9, 1989, East German authorities announced they would stop preventing their citizens from crossing the barrier after months of political unrest.

That night saw a euphoric tide of celebrations sweep throughout Berlin as citizens celebrated their country's reunification.

Cameraman Pascal Leblond was there as the first Germans crossed the wall, working as a sound recordist for CBC News. He said witnessing that night brought tears to his eyes and calls the assignment the highlight of his career.
