Guelph police are investigating after a Second World War veteran had his home broken into and was robbed of war documents, jewelry and money.

Police say the elderly man left his east end home for a short time on Fri. Nov. 7, during which time the items were removed by one or more perpetrators.

"I have not in my career with the Guelph Police Service heard of a theft of this type in the past," said Staff Sgt. Dave Doxey, who has been on the force for 16 years.

Doxey said Sunday night police have no suspects and there is no indication that the man was targeted.

Police were unable to provide a value for the goods taken.
