OTTAWA - A look at Transport Canada spending on aviation, marine and rail safety over the past five years:

2009-10:

Aviation safety: $231 million

Marine safety: $81.8 million

Rail safety: $37.1 million

2010-11:

Aviation safety: $211 million

Marine safety: $82.7 million

Rail safety: $31 million

2011-12:

Aviation safety: $221.9 million

Marine safety: $75.6 million

Rail safety: $32.6 million

2012-13:

Aviation safety: $198.6 million

Marine safety: $56.5 million

Rail safety: $34.2 million

2013-14

Aviation safety: $184.6 million

Marine safety: $59.6 million

Rail safety: $29.2 million
