Toronto police are investigating after they received a report of a seemingly random abduction attempt in the west end in which the suspect allegedly held a hacksaw to a woman's throat.

On Sunday, at around 11 p.m., police say a 27-year-old woman was walking in the College Street and Brock Avenue area. A man approached her from behind and held a metal hacksaw to her neck, say police. He began to drag her away.

The woman screamed for help and two men came to her aid, according to police. The men drove over in a truck and got out to chase the suspect. He fled on foot and escaped.

The man is described as being 5'7" and as having an olive complexion and short, brown hair and being clean-shaven. He was wearing a dark-coloured plaid coat with white, horizontal stripes on the front.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1100. Information can also be passed on anonymously through Crime Stoppers (416-222-8477).
