A Vancouver taxi driver escaped a terrifying fire near Vancouver's Rogers Arena on Monday evening.

The driver, who was the only person in the cab, noticed an electrical problem when it was stopped at a red light on Expo Boulevard, Black Top Checker Cabs told CTV News.

He was able to escape without injury.

Video taken by a witness and posted by Vancity Buzz shows thick smoke billowing out of the taxi and onto the ceiling of the Georgia Viaduct.
