LONDON, Ont. - A newly elected city councillor in London, Ont., is joining a women's centre in calling for Bill Cosby to cancel his upcoming show in the city amid a growing number of sexual assault allegations.

Councillor-elect Mo Salih says he wrote the American comedian, asking him to reconsider his scheduled January 6, 2015 performance in light of the scandal.

The head of the London Abused Women's Centre has called for a boycott of the performance after officials at Budweiser Gardens said they couldn't contractually cancel the show.

Salih says he wants the city to look at whether anything can be done to call off the show despite the venue's statement.

In the past week, numerous allegations of sexual abuse by Cosby from a number of women have led to cancelled interviews and NBC and Netflix projects.

Cosby issued a statement Sunday discrediting decades-old accusations and his attorney has denied four of the allegations.
