It’s that time of year again, when Canadians head to the ski hills, passing along the way some fancy mountain homes they wished they owned.

Anyone who’s fought winter traffic on Autoroute 15 or the Sea-to-Sky Highway knows just how much easier the ski life would be if they had a home at the base of the mountain.

There are, of course, hotels, time-shares and lodges but there’s something about owning your own ski home that just spells “success,” Canadian style.

If owning the side of a mountaintop doesn’t suit you, then how about a modernist classic (some might say monstrosity) that harkens back to the loud colours and soft angles of 1960s modernism?

This four-bedroom, $2.5-million house in B.C.'s East Kootenays seriously looks like it’s about to break out in an Austin Powers dance party. If Stanley Kubrick was a ski bum, he’d live here. But there is something strangely compelling about this place...
