Harper set to announce Quebec's new Supreme Court justice

The federal government will announce today a replacement from Quebefor Justice Louis LeBel, who is retiring from the Supreme Court of Canada.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will make the announcement before leaving for the Francophonie Summit in Senegal later Thursday morning.

LeBel retires on Sunday, when he turns 75.

The new justice must be from Quebec, which gets three of the nine seats on the Supreme Court.

LeBel's replacement will be the seventh justice Harper has appointed to the country's highest court.
