Madonna Poses Topless, Talks Drug Use And New Album In Interview Magazine

Madonna Poses Topless, Talks Drug Use, Death And New Album

Madonna is still courting controversy at age 56. The venerable pop star posed topless for Interview magazine while also discussing her own drug use: "I've tried everything once."

Magician David Blaine conducted the interview and asked about the the song "Devil Prays" from her upcoming album, noting "It's not like you were using drugs, but it's all about drug use."

"It's about how people take drugs to connect to God or to a higher level of consciousness," she replied. "I keep saying 'Plugging into the matrix. If you get high, you can do that, which is why a lot of people drop acid or do drugs, because they want to get closer to God. But there’s going to be a short circuit, and that's the illusion of drugs, because they give you the illusion of getting closer to God, but ultimately they kill you."

"I mean, I tried everything once, but as soon as I was high, I spent my time drinking tons of water to get it out of my system. As soon as I was high, I was obsessed with flushing it out of me. I was like, "Okay, I'm done now."

But drugs aren't her only inspiration. Madonna also credits her kids.

"Like, my son came to the studio the other day and said he didn't want to go home. I said, 'No, you have to go home; it's time for bed.' And he said, 'Mom, I feel like I'm isolated from your heart.' I was like, 'Oh, that's a good line. I have to use that.' You get it everywhere, the high and the low. You've got to be open to it all. Suffering is a big informer, a big catalyst for creation. You take your sadness, your despair, your sense of injustice, and you put it in your work."

As for why she doesn't seem to be slowing down, Madonna had a simple explanation:

"I became very obsessed with death, and the idea that you never know when death will arrive, so one has to do as much as possible all the time to get the most out of life."

Of course, most of the focus will be on the topless photo, which the Telegraph is already calling "A triumph for all women - whatever their age."
