HALIFAX - A 43-year-old man is facing a charge of sexual assault after a sedated patient was allegedly touched while awaiting surgery at a hospital in Halifax.

Police say a witness alleges he saw a patient attendant touch a 18-year-old woman as she was being prepared to undergo surgery at the QEII Health Sciences Centre on April 15.

Patient attendants assist in surgery preparations.

Police say they received a complaint from the woman on April 22.

Police say Scott Christopher Goreham of Lower Prospect, N.S., was arrested after turning himself in at police headquarters in Halifax.
