Stanley Park causeway bike path to be revealed at open house

The B.C. government will reveal plans to improve the bike route along the Stanley Park causeway this afternoon at an open house.

The public will be able to review the proposal and speak with the project manager Erin Moxin at the Coal Harbour Community Centre from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. PT.

The preferred options for the busy route, which connects downtown Vancouver with the North Shore, involve widening the sidewalks and installing safety fencing.

Currently the cyclists and pedestrians share the elevated sidewalks on both sides of the causeway, including a long downhill stretch for southbound traffic.

Cycling advocates called for safety upgrades after a 61-year-old woman was killed last year when she rode off the elevated sidewalk and into the path of an oncoming bus.

The ministry plans to collect public feedback from an information session today, but the Vancouver Park Board has the final word on the design.
