Quebec Singer Luck Mervil Charged With Sexually Assaulting Teen In 1996

MONTREAL - Popular Quebec singer and actor Luck Mervil has been charged with sexually assaulting an adolescent girl with whom he was in a position of authority.

The 47-year-old Haitian native also faces one count of invitation to sexual touching involving the same girl.

The alleged offences took place in the first six months of 1996 when he was 29.

Court proceedings are set to resume Feb. 23 for Mervil, whose first name is actually Lucknerson.

He has become involved in humanitarian causes in recent years as well as being named "Patriot of the Year" in 2004 by the separatist Societe Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
