A crime spree comprised of shoplifting, stabbing, and carjacking ended with an arrest in Vancouver on Friday morning.
Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at around 9:30 a.m., according to a news release.
Once at the scene, police were told that the suspect had stabbed two male employees with a knife; both sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect allegedly ran from the scene after the incident and stole a car with a female driver still inside.
Police from across the Lower Mainland, including dog, air, and emergency response teams, were called to help find the suspect and car, which were soon found in Vancouver. The female victim exited the car unharmed while it was stopped in traffic; she was later found in the 3300-block of Cambie Street.
The suspect eventually pulled over and ran from the car to an industrial area in South Vancouver.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody by Vancouver police at around 10:30 a.m.
The Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading an investigation.
Separate carjacking incident
It wasn't Friday's only carjacking in Surrey.
A woman called Surrey RCMP at about 8:17 a.m. to say that she had left her Honda Civic running in her driveway while she went inside to get coffee and that when she came back out, it was gone, according to a press release.
Then just after 9:30 a.m., Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of another carjacking. The owner of the car said a man had driven up and shouted at him to get out of his car and leave the keys in the ignition. The suspect fled the area in the man's Kia, leaving behind the stolen Honda.
Soon after, witnesses reported seeing a Kia being driven erratically through Burnaby on Highway 1. Police believe the car was driven through Vancouver and eventually dumped in Richmond. The suspect then allegedly got into a stationary BMW and was reported by witnesses as driving erratically through Richmond.
The BMW was then seen heading over the Knight St. Bridge and then collided with Vancouver police cars at Fraser Street and Southeast Marine Drive, where the suspect was taken into custody. Richmond RCMP are leading an investigation.
