Erie Otters star Connor McDavid gave nervous Canadian hockey fans some relief when he told Hockey Night in Canada’s David Amber that he “should be ready to go” for the upcoming world junior championship set for late December.

Canada opens the tournament, which takes place in Toronto and Montreal, against Slovakia at the Bell Centre on Dec. 26.

McDavid, who took in the Vancouver Canucks-Toronto Maple Leafs game at Air Canada Centre Saturday night, broke a bone in his right hand during a fight in November.

McDavid is expected to miss five to six weeks, which puts his return right on line with Canada’s first game.

“I have another doctor’s appointment on Tuesday and the cast is expected to come off. So I’ll be able to resume shooting and all that and take some hits,” he told Amber.

Canada’s selection camp is from Dec. 7-9.
