Quebec man charged after fatal Hwy. 48 collision

A Quebec man has been charged following a fatal accident on Hwy. 48 in Georgina yesterday.

Maxime Thibodeau, 20, of Chateau Guay, Que., faces one charge of careless driving after his vehicle veered into the opposing lane at about 3:30 p.m. ET on Monday near Ravenshoe Road, clipping a pick-up truck before smashing head-on into a minivan.

The driver of the minivan, 56-year-old Robert O. Townsend of Keswick, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thibodeau and a 19-year-old male passenger of the minivan were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.  The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured in the collision.

OPP is investigating the incident, and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call 905-841-5777.
