(Warning: The above video shows an elk in distress and may be disturbing)

An RCMP officer in Kimberley, B.C. has warmed the proverbial heart of the Internet after he was captured on camera helping an elk caught in a wire fence.

Police received a report of a distressed elk off Highway 95A east of Kimberley late Wednesday morning, according to the YouTube video description.

Sgt. Darrell Robinson arrived to find a cow elk on her back with two legs caught in the wire. Robinson used his hands to free one leg and wire cutters to free the other. Soon after, the animal stood up and walked away.

While she seemed to escape the situation unharmed, police say she could have been attacked by predators or suffered a painful death if she hadn't been freed.

Nice work, Sgt. Robinson!
