A 21-year-old Barrie man has been charged with mischief and carrying a concealed weapon, after a series of alleged events involving beer and sharp kitchen utensils unfolded at his brother's house on Saturday night.

Barrie police say a man was drinking and smashing beer bottles and also used a meat cleaver to chop up the kitchen counter.

When police arrived at the scene, the man had left.

He was found nearby with a 12-inch kitchen knife in the waistband of his pants, along with a bag that contained several cans of beer.

Police said he wasn't supposed to consume or possess alcohol under the terms of a conditional sentence.

The accused has been held for a bail hearing. He also faces a charge of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
