The asphalt at the corner of Victoria and Lacombe avenues buckled after an eight-inch pipe broke underground around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Aqueduct service foreman Giovanni Fiore said that intersection was already slated for work this weekend to repair a larger 36-inch pipe, after an underground leak was noticed.
Fiore said the fluctuation in temperatures is at least partially responsible for the break.
"First thing because of the different temperature, and the other thing, because I guess there was a weakness in the pipe, so now we'll fix it today," he said.
No basement flooding has been reported.
