A 25-year-old Nova Scotia woman has been charged with assault with a weapon and dangerous driving after she rammed her car into another woman who had called police after she saw two young kids in the vehicle unattended.
On Tuesday, a woman saw two children, aged one and two years old, sitting in the car alone for around 20 minutes in a parking lot on Damascus Road, the Halifax Regional Police said in a news release.
She called police, and as cops headed to the scene, the car's driver was spotted leaving a Dollarama, said Metro News. The woman informed her she'd have to stay because as police were on their way.
The driver then stored some items in the trunk, took her seat behind the wheel and hit the woman in the leg, knocking her on to the car's hood before driving away. The victim fell, but was not injured.
Police found the driver and the two kids on Highway 101.
Officers are asking any witnesses to come forward.
Const. Pierre Bourdages told Metro that people should never leave young children alone in a car.
"If they had gotten unbuckled, they could have gotten out of the car and into the parking lot," he told the newspaper.
