Two orderlies at Santa Cabrini Hospital in Montreal have been suspended after putting shaving cream in a patient’s food last week.

According to the hospital’s director of communications, Rocco Famiglietti, both workers confessed to doing it, saying it was a prank.

The patient spat out his food and reported the incident to the head nurse.

Within two days of the incident, the orderlies were suspended.

"It's also important to note that there was no physical harm brought to the patient," said Famiglietti.

“Because if that had been the case, the hospital has a zero tolerance policy and the two employees would've been fired.”

Prior to this suspension, Famiglietti said the two orderlies had good work records. Both of them had worked in the hospital for a couple of years.

Famiglietti said police have been made aware of the incident, but so far, no charges have been laid.

The hospital has launched a full investigation.
