Ryan Roche Wins Eggnog-Chugging Contest, Is Hospitalized For 3 Days

Man Hospitalized After Winning Eggnog-Chugging Contest

A Utah man set a new eggnog-chugging record among his co-workers to win a steakhouse gift certificate – and a trip to the hospital.

“I just decided I was going to win. So I pretty much just opened it up and poured it down my throat,” Ryan Roche told ABC News.

And did he ever. A YouTube video uploaded on Monday shows the 33-year-old father of three downing nearly a litre of non-alcoholic sweet nog in 12 seconds.

The previous record was 22 seconds.

According to Grub Street, it was hours later when Roche felt the punch of his holiday feat. He decided to check into a hospital after he became nauseous and unable to breathe.

Doctors found eggnog had made its way into his lungs, which had caused an infection. He was put on antibiotics and was hospitalized for three days, including one in the ICU.

But the humour of his eggnog-induced predicament wasn’t lost on him, his friends or medical staff.

“I can’t tell you how many doctors or nurses would walk into my room and say, ‘Eggnog, huh?’ Roche told NY Daily News. “Then they’d say, ‘Well, at least you won.’”
