New Year's Eve 2014: A 1990s Electronic Music Playlist For Your Party

An Awesome '90s Electronic Music Playlist For New Year's Eve

Stuck for what to do on New Year's Eve? We have you covered.

There are lots of things you can do to send off 2014. You could go out for a nice dinner, maybe watch the countdown to 2015 live from Times Square in New York City.

Or, you could throw a dance party with a playlist that taps into all the great music you listened to when you were younger.

Today, electronic music is largely known as "EDM," referring to a broad spectrum of genres that depend on machines to generate beats and drops.

Much of that music is influenced by 1990s tracks that were often referred to as "techno," "electronica" or simply "dance music."

They were promoted through compilations such as "Dance Mix 92," and shows such as MuchMusic's "Electric Circus."

And their popularity endures even today.

Darude's 1999 hit "Sandstorm," for example, hit number 50 on the Canadian dance chart earlier this month. Check out the video at the top of this story to see what happened when Peking Duk played the track at Stereosonic 2014 in Sydney.

The hook for Kiesza's "Hideaway" is straight out of the 1990s, and she even sang her own version of the dance hit "What Is Love."

We here at The Huffington Post Canada have put together a great playlist of 1990s-era electronic music you can use at your New Year's Eve party.

We've organized the tracks by the years in which they came out, to give you a sense of how the music evolved over the decade.

All of which is to say, your New Year's resolution is to dance your face off.

Check out some tracks you can throw into your playlist for a 1990s-infused New Year's Eve, and we made an Rdio playlist, too:
