When it comes to baby names, British Columbians are pretty consistent. Especially with girls' names.
The B.C. government has released its statistics on the province's top baby names for 2013, and Olivia remained the number one girl choice for another year. For boys, 2012's top pick, Ethan, was bumped to third place in 2013 (see the full rankings below).
It could just be coincidence that Olivia Pope is the name of the lead character on Shonda Rhimes' hit show "Scandal," but maybe not. Earlier in December, BabyCenter released its list of the most popular baby names in 2014. On that list, Olivia came in at number three for girls.
An analysis of naming trends showed many parents are taking inspiration from TV shows like "Nashville," "Orange Is The New Black," and, yes, "Scandal."
So it could just be a chance similarity for B.C. β or maybe we've been Pope'd.
The popularity of TV show "Downton Abbey" has also inspired parents in the U.K., the Daily Mail reported earlier this month. The country saw a rise in babies sharing names with characters from the show, including Cora, Sybil, Violet and Elsie.
