What's open and what's closed in Montreal on New Year's Day

New Year's Day may not be the best time to do some shopping or go to the bank in Montreal, but there are still ways to keep entertained and get around the city. 

Here's a list of some of what's open and closed New Year's Day

Open New Year's Day

- Most pharmacies should be open, following modified holiday hours.

- Movie theatres should be open and have normal showtimes.

- Some skating rinks will be open, including at the Old Port.

- STM bus lines and the metro will operate on a modified holiday schedule.

- Société de transport de Laval buses will run on a weekend schedule January 1 and January 2.

- Rides on the AMT’s St-Jérôme Deux-Montagnes, and Vaudreuil-Hudson lines are free January 1, but will operate on a reduced schedule until January 2.

- Parking meters will remain in operation.

Closed New Year's Day

- Banks will be closed until January 3.

- Post offices will be closed and mail will not be collected or delivered.

- Most government offices will be closed until January 2.

- Most shopping malls will be closed.

- SAQ outlets will closed.

- Ecocentres are closed until January 5.
