EDMONTON - Edmonton police have found a baby girl safe in a stolen car that her mother had left running and unlocked.

Police say the woman left the toddler in a child safety seat in the back of the car Wednesday while she dashed into a business to sign some papers.

When she reported the car stolen police swooped into the area and found the vehicle as a man ran away.

Officers and a police dog tracked the man down and arrested him.

The 31-year-old man faces charges including auto theft, possession of stolen property, obstruction and breach of conditions.

Police say the girl was located unharmed in her baby seat and her mother will not face charges under Alberta's Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
