Man shot at Bloor Street East near Sherbourne

A man in his 40s has been shot after an apparent holdup in a shopping plaza at Bloor Street East near Sherbourne Street this morning.

Police received a call at 8:30 a.m. about a man with a handgun.

Toronto paramedics say one man has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was shot in the leg and torso. Police also say Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in. The SIU investigates any incident in which someone has been hurt or killed during an interaction with police.

Bloor Street East is now closed off between Huntley and Sherbourne Streets in both directions. The area round Sherbourne and Wellesley is also closed to traffic
