CALGARY - A First Nation in Alberta is mourning the death of a former chief.

Gordon Crowchild was born in 1929 and was chief of the Tsuu (SOO) T'ina (TEENA) in the 1970s.

Funeral announcements will be announced at a later date.

Chief Roy Whitney says Crowchild will be remembered for achievements in his many roles and for his frankness in local, provincial and national politics.

Whitney says Crowchild had great love for his community.

He adds that Crowchild established the economic foundation and building blocks for the success that Tsuu T’ina enjoys today, including assisting in the early negotiations of the southwest Calgary ring road.
