“We just hope somebody comes forward and tells us where she’s at, and doesn’t harm her,” says Laurie Traviss.
Traviss and her husband, Terry, had just arrived in Memphis from their winter home in Texas to celebrate the 80th anniversary of The King's birth.
After eating supper at a restaurant, the pair discovered the driver's-side window of their truck was smashed and their four-year-old Yorkie named Dixie was gone.
The horrified couple reported the theft to two police officers who happened to be nearby.
A surveillance video caught the thief throwing Dixie into his car, but police have not located the dog.
“We’ve had her since she’s a baby,” Traviss said. “When we picked that puppy out, she fit in the palm of my hand.
“We take her everywhere. We don’t go anywhere without her.”
The couple’s story was featured on nightly newscasts in Memphis, and offers of help have been rolling in — including an offer from the president of a small airline to fly the dog back to Canada if it’s found after the two return home.
