It wasn't a great weekend for The Weeknd in Las Vegas.

According to TMZ, Abel Tesfaye, the band's founder and singer, was arrested for battery of a protected person following a fight early Saturday morning inside the Cromwell Hotel in Las Vegas.

Around 4:20 am a fight inside the hotel began with Tesfaye allegedly involved in the fisticuffs. When law enforcement officials arrived, the fight was still going. Police reportedly tried to intervene and break up the fight with one cop pulling Tesfaye into an elevator. It was then that Tesfaye allegedly punched the officer in the head.

Tesfaye was arrested and, according to the CBC was taken to the Clark County Detention Center and charged with a misdemeanor battery of a protected person. Las Vegas Police Officer Laura Meltzer said Tesfaye hit the officer on the side of the head with a closed fist but it didn't appear to injure or seriously hurt the officer. There's no word on whether others involved in the fight were arrested.

Tesfaye was bailed out of jail shortly thereafter. On Saturday evening the singer tweeted the following as well as posting an Instagram of him heading for a plane to get out of town.
