The water main on Leslie Street north of Finch Avenue East ruptured in frigid temperatures early Tuesday and sent a massive blast of water into the air. With morning temperatures in the -20 C range, the water has quickly turned to ice, making the road treacherous for both cars and pedestrians.
CBC News overnight reporter Tony Smyth described a "mountain of ice" forming on Leslie Street.
Crews capped the break just after 6 a.m.
Smyth said Leslie Street and Old Cummer GO station are both closed. There is also no TTC service in the area. Expect the closures to stay in place for some time.
