Gail McDonald likes hockey, but she never paid as much attention to a Jets game as she did when Matthieu Perreault started racking up goals against the Florida Panthers Tuesday night.

McDonald's name flashed across the screen early in the game in Safeway's $1-million promotion.

If a player scored five goals in the game, the Brandon school principal would win $1 million.

McDonald wasn't even watching the game.

"At that the time we weren't, then my brother called and then it became more interesting so we did tune in and you know, when he hit the four goals, like the phone just started ringing off the hook," McDonald said.

Perreault apologized to McDonald at the end of the game for not making just one more goal.

She's taking it all in stride.

"I would thank him for all of his efforts and he had an awesome game, so, keep it up," McDonald said.

McDonald said she had no idea she was even registered for the million-dollar contest, but after researching it she found out she was automatically registered when she swipes her Air Miles card at Safeway.
