New year, new trends!
Now that we've finally entered 2015, it's time to start thinking about all the great new (and renewed) trends we'll be wearing this year. From menswear-inspired trouser suits to outfits comprised of all white everything, the spring 2015 runways were full of some great wardrobe inspiration.
To narrow things down (trust us, it wasn't easy), we've put together a list of our favourite 12 trends for the upcoming season. Just check them out in the gallery below:
Spring 2015 Fashion Trends
1. Suit Up
Menswear inspired pieces aren't necessarily new, but for spring 2015, we saw designers send out some fresh interpretations of the trend. From the boxy, all-white looks at Hermès to the slouchy tweed power suits at Chanel, the classic ensemble proved to be anything but boring. So go ahead, take a cue from the boys and suit up!
2. Suede
Channel your inner '70s chick with smooth suedes in a rich yet neutral colour palette (think mustard yellows, browns, creams, and even plums). Pucci took the trend in a hippie chic direction, sending models down the runway in suede flares, while Karen Walker used the smooth leather for funky colourblocked shift dresses.
3. All White Everything
Year after year, season after season, we just can't get enough of the all white trend. There's just something so crisp and cool about the colour, we can't help but fall in love every time we see it—designers like Jill Stuart and Christopher Kane seem to agree! And even though we know an entirely white outfit is a recipe for disaster (no matter how hard you try, you will always manage to get dirty), we choose not to care.
4. Different Denim
This year, jeans are anything but basic. Instead of the skinny jeans we've so come to love, designers took denim in a different direction. Dolce & Gabbana dressed their models in crystal embellished jeans (which paired perfectly with silky black camis) to add a touch of Spanish flair, while Louis Vuitton saw models strutting down the catwalk in well-tailored trouser jeans (an ode to business casual, perhaps?). Denim dresses also showed up, with designers like Frida Giannini sending models out with two-toned belted versions at Gucci.
5. Fringe-tastic
If you're getting pumped up for festival season, you're in luck. Fringe, a festival staple, was everywhere this season, with designers like Peter Dundas at Pucci and Giambattista Valli sending models out in super fun fringed numbers. ICB also saw models sporting fringe, but instead of all-over, it was accented on dresses and skirts for a slightly more understated look.
6. Black And White
Much like the all white trend, black and white is going nowhere fast. Each season, we see designers produce the trend with new prints (Thakoon), fun silhouettes (Zero + Maria Cornejo) and interesting fabrics (Balenciaga). We can't get enough.
7. One Shoulder Necklines
The one shoulder neckline showed up everywhere from Zero + Maria Cornejo to Jill Stuart and Ralph Lauren, and we have to say, we're total fans. A cross between the strapless top and the tank top, this style looks refreshing and playful. It's also a great way to show off the toned shoulders you worked so hard on!
8. Full Printed Skirts
Full, ladylike skirts have definitely made a major comeback in recent years, and in 2015, they may have finally proven they're here to stay. Designers like Stella Jean took the trend in a playful direction with her colourful landscape printed skirts while Michael Kors kept things classic with a bright floral print.
9. Sporty Chic
Sportswear is one of our favourite trends to emerge from the runways in recent years because we're all for clothing that looks trendy but is also comfortable. And with a stamp of approval from both Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexander Wang (who took inspiration for running shoe laces), you know this trend is cool. So go ahead, pull out those sneakers, jerseys, and maybe even a fanny pack, and get sporty.
10. Gingham
You don't need to be in Kansas to wear gingham! This checked print got a grown-up revival for 2015, with designers like Oscar de la Renta, Karen Walker, and Altuzarra all putting their own spin in it. It's definitely a trend we'll be rocking this year.
11. Mellow Yellow
Not only was yellow a major colour trend at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, it was all over the runways. Everyone from Burberry to Michael Kors sent out garments in the sunny shade, and we love it. Yellow may seem like a hard colour to pull off, but these deep, richer tones are perfect for adding a pop of colour to any outfit.
12. The Shirt Dress
The classic collared shirt dress proved to be a staple yet again for 2015. We saw a sequined version over at Ashish (we can totally see Miley Cyrus rocking this look) and more classic cuts at Altuzarra and Rebecca Minkoff. This frock is a great transition piece and can take you through winter (just add layers) to spring and summer.
