ROCKYVIEW, Alta. - A 59-year-old man has been charged following an accident involving a semi carrying fuel on a busy highway just north of Calgary.

Rockyview RCMP say the man is charged with careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act.

His named has not been released.

Earlier this week, a truck-trailer unit rolled into the median after jack-knifing on Queen Elizabeth II Highway not far from the Cross Iron Mills shopping centre.

About 13,000 litres of gasoline spilled into nearby wetlands and traffic was snarled for hours.

It's expected to take weeks to fully clean up the spill.
