"We hear so much about what they've done, and not so much about what's driven them to do it," series host and producer Naheed Henderson told The Early Edition's Rick Cluff.
Henderson, of Pemberton, has her own personal connection to the series, as a former professional skier.
"I literally lived, breathed and ate the mountains. I was completely absorbed. I was living the dream in many ways," she said.
But after travelling the world with her skiing career, she took a step back to raise a family and pursue her other interests.
Now, she says, her relationship with the mountains has matured.
"I'm much more humbled by the mountains. I've been able to realize that they have been my greatest teacher in life and if I can go into the mountains without my ego and with the right type of courage, I have an amazing amount to learn and grow from the mountains."
Henderson will sit down with Wylie for Beyond the Avalanche - the launch of the Mountain Story series - at 7:30 p.m. PT on Friday night at the Garibaldi Lift Co. Bar & Grill in Whistler.
