Let this be a lesson to all teenage speed demons: if you get caught driving dangerously in Alberta, they might just tell your mom.

That's the case for one young man who was clocked going 100 kilometres over the speed limit near Airdrie Wednesday.

The 17-year-old was driving 182 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre zone, when he was caught by an officer conducting speed enforcement on Range Road 11, near Highway 566.

According to police, he had his girlfriend with him in the Hyundai Genesis.

"This young man is lucky the officer was there. Crashing at that speed, could have been catastrophic. The faster you drive, the harder you hit" said Cpl. Darrin Turnbull of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit, adding that speeding is a factor is 26 per cent of serious injury and fatal collision in Alberta.

In addition to his mom being notified, the teen was issued a mandatory court appearance for traffic court.
