Denny Morrison, Ivanie Blondin win medals in World Cup speed skating

Denny Morrison of Chetwynd, B.C. picked up a bronze medal in the 1,500-metre race at a World Cup speed skating event in Hamar, Norway on Sunday.

According to Speed Skating Canada, the 29-year-old reached the podium to notch the 40th individual World Cup medal of his career and his first this year.

He completed the track in 1:46.03 behind Denis Yuskov of Russia (1:45.07) and Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands (1:45.80). 

Also on Sunday, Ivanie Blondin earned her sixth World Cup medal of the season by finishing second in the mass start event. The Ottawa native took silver with 40 points. 

Irene Schouten (61 points) and Mariska Huisman (23 points) of the Netherlands took gold and bronze respectively.
