FREDERICTON - The New Brunswick government's new Crown corporation aimed at promoting job creation and economic growth has appointed a chief executive officer.

Stephen Lund will step into the position at Opportunities New Brunswick on Feb. 16.

The province says Lund, who has 30 years experience in the financial and economic development industries, was hired after an independent recruitment process.

Lund was most recently vice-president of industrial benefits and community affairs with Irving Shipbuilding Inc. and has also held the position of CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc.

Premier Brian Gallant says Lund has a proven track record of attracting business to the region and helping local companies grow.

The government announced in December that it would establish Opportunities New Brunswick, which is taking over activities previously led by Invest New Brunswick.

At the time, Gallant said the corporation was expected to be launched by April 1.
