A Nova Scotia MP praised a popular amateur weather forecaster from Cape Breton Thursday.

Mark Eyking, the MP for Sydney-Victoria, praised Frankie MacDonald, whose energetic forecasts have racked up millions of views.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize weatherman extraordinaire Mr. Frankie MacDonald of Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia,” Eyking said in the House of Commons.

“We as Cape Bretoners are very proud of Frankie the Weatherman and wish him all the best as he continues to keep us safe from Mother Nature.”

The 30 year old has a huge North American following, with millions of views on social media.

MacDonald was touched by Eyking's comments.

“That was great. He told me, Frankie is doing a great job, to keep up the great work to stay warm and stay safe,” Macdonald said.

He’s even inspired a Halifax clothing company to roll out a T-shirt line bearing his “Be Prepared” slogan. All the proceeds will go to the Autism Society (MacDonald has autism).

All of Whitney Pier celebrated their prognosticator.

“He's amazing. Frankie is the person I go to when I am trying to find out my weather,” said Margaret MacLeod.

“He's very popular. He like has over a million follows on Instagram; I am one of them,” said Latasha Fenech.

MacDonald spends hours online searching various websites for the latest weather updates

“Not just Atlantic Canada, but west coast of Canada, Edmonton and Calgary. When there's a hurricane is heading towards Florida and the gulf coast. I warn people to get prepared,” he said.

He gave CBC his forecast for Friday.

“It's going to be 20 centimetres of snow and as the rain is going to change over to snow. I want everybody to be prepared. Make sure you have your winter boots ready, jackets ready, hats, gloves, ski pants — ready.”
